Sustainable ingredients made from agri-food wastes

We are developing a novel technology platform to produce alternative protein and functional ingredients from agri-food wastes

Circular approach for alternative protein production

We transform agri-food wastes into alternative protein and functional ingredients through bioprocessing. Our innovative approach aligns with the principles of a circular bioeconomy, wherein resources traditionally treated as waste products are instead reclaimed, converted, and valorized into new materials.

Why valorize agri-food wastes?

Adequate disposal of waste materials generated from the global food supply chain is a major concern since dumping or burning of such wastes poses a threat to human and planet health. Every year, India alone produces about 500 million tons of agri-food wastes ranging from crop residues to left-overs from food processing industries. Most of these wastes are underutilized and disposed by burning or dumping in landfills, contributing to environmental degradation and economic losses. Waste valorization and production of value added products is necessary to end waste burning and derive economic opportunities from agri-food wastes. Further, climate change-driven weather events will adversely impact crop production in the years to come. In order to increase the resources to feed the growing population, every fraction produced in the agri-food supply chain should be valorized efficiently.
